The Lincoln Connection (Almost)

There has been a rumor floating around the family that we are related to Abraham Lincoln. I figured that if a family has a rumor, why not see if it might be true? Lincoln did have ancestors that lived in the Hingham and Scituate area for several generations.  It was plausible.  I did find a few connections by marriage, but no common ancestor.

I have since heard that the alleged connection is through the Randall family.  If one looks at the Modern Butler page, Mabel Butler married Leslie Randall.  There were Randalls in old Hingham.  Still, I haven't connected the modern Randalls with the old Hingham Randalls, nor the old Hingham Randalls with the old Hingham Lincolns.

Still, there are a few tenuous connections.

I'll note that my nephew Michael Long is currently living in Scituate, not far from where the senior Mordecai Lincoln lived.

I'll also note that persistence sometimes does pay off.  See Abe Lincoln II.

After Reverand John Lyford died, Sarah Lyford married Edmund Hobart, a direct Butler ancestor who can be found on the James Butler page. However, this was a late life marriage. Sarah and Edmund had no children.

Edward Lincoln's great grand daughter Sarah Lincoln married one of Edmund Hobart's great grand children, James Beal.  As the Butlers didn't descend from said union, this matter very little.

Here's where I missed.  Sarah Jones' parents -- Abraham Jones and Sarah Whitman -- are direct ancestors of the Modern Butlers.  See Abe Lincoln II.
